Believed to have been built in the mid 1700s by the merchant George Heggie of Pitlessie, later Baillie (Provost) of Kirkcaldy, Pitlessie House is situated in the village of Pitlessie, in the Howe of Fife, on the banks of the river Eden.
Developed in the 18th century in association with Priestfield Farm and Maltings, the estate of Pitlessie extended to upwards of 495 Scots acres and included 'a thriving plantation of 44 acres of woods.' It contained 'the town and village of Pitlessie and the command of the water of the river Eden', which supplied the corn (wheat) and barley mills'. This was 'of great value for manufacturing purposes' as advertised in 1819 by Mrrs. Geo. Heggie, W.S. Castle Street, Edinburgh.
In 1819 Pitlessie House was described as 'an excellent dwelling house and commodious steading in a very fine situation', a B listed Georgian 3-storey House, set in 1/2 acre of walled garden or nursery, in the parish of Cults.
Today, it finds a new lease of life as quality Bed and Breakfast. Whatever you want to explore - Fife's best kept beaches, the home of Golf in St Andrews, the historic village of Falkland, or if you just want to
